Abstract 

Postpartum collapse is rare in modern obstetrics and if not promptly diagnosed and effectively managed, can prove fatal. We provide a synopsis of the diagnosis and management of the most serious causes of postpartum maternal collapse and reflect on the recommendations of the latest Confidential Enquiry Report. Initiatives to improve maternal mortality and morbidity from postpartum collapse are also considered.
